Sanchez is a Chicano salsa musician who grew up in East L.A.
David Torres, Poncho's long-time keyboardist and music director,
is another Eastside musician who was in the original Tierra.

Fender's mega-hit "Before the Next Teardrop Falls,"
and the Texas Tornados' good time song "Hey Baby Que
Pasó."
"El Cantante"
El Cantante is the 2006 motion picture biography of Puerto
Rican salsa pioneer Hector Lavoe starring Marc Anthony and
Jennifer Lopez. The film follows Lavoe's passionate
relationship with Puchi and his skyrocket to international
fame. But even when he has it all, Lavoe is unable to
escape the allure of drugs and his personal pain.
