CD Review:  Lalo Guerrero "El Chicano Inolvidable"

by Mark Guerrero

In 2002, Warner Music Latina released "Lalo Guerrero- El Chicano Inolvidable."  It's a great collection of the best of my dad's recordings of the 1960s.  My dad and I selected the songs from approximately 200 recordings he did during the period.  We purposely selected songs with the idea of having a variety of styles which reflected his diversity.  All songs are written by my dad.  The songs included are:  "Nunca Jamas," his classic bolero, "El Chicano," a corrido expressing Chicano pride, "El Guero Aventao," a comic polka, "La Pollera Rota," a cumbia, "El Corrido de Cesar Chavez," "La Flaca," a canción norteña, "El Transplante," a corrido love song, "Los Angeles," a tribute song to the city, "Cuando Me Muero Por Ti," a a beautiful danzonette showcasing my dad's voice at it's best, "Me Gusta El Cha Cha Cha," "La Minifalda de Reynalda," a comic rock/norteña and one of his biggest hits," and "Ole," a paso doble complete with the Castilian style of Spanish pronunciation.  This collection features my dad in his prime as a singer/songwriter.  To read another review of the CD visit www.tucsoncitizen.com.  To order the CD on line, go to www.artistdirect.com.  To order from a store, the CD number is Musiteca 40023-2 (Wea International).
