"Stand and Deliver, a Music Tribute to Jaime Escalante" - compilation CD released by East L.A.'s legendary singer Little Ray Jimenez, aka Monchie Jimenez, features Mark Guerrero composition and recording "If I Could Touch Your Life."  Other artists featured are The Delgado Brothers, Chico, Steve Salas, Geree Gonzalez, Elijah, Chan Romero, and others.  (2010)

Riviera Hotel, Palm Springs, CA- tribute concert for Don Tosti, who had just passed away.  Mark Guerrero performed Louis Jordan's "Let the Good Times Roll," Don Tosti's "Chavelita," and Lalo Guerrero's "Los Chucos Suaves."  Lalo came up and sang the latter song with Mark.  It was their last performance together.  Lalo passed away six months later.  Ry Cooder played guitar in the band on the set. Dodge Theater, Phoenix, Arizona- concert with Mark Guerrero & Radio Aztlán for the induction ceremony for the Arizona Music & Entertainment Hall of Fame.  Lalo Guerrero, Waylon Jennings, and Marty Robbins were posthumously inducted.  Glen Campbell, Jessi Colter and 16 others were also inducted.  Also on the performing bill were Jessi Colter, Dyke & the Blazers (of "Funky Funky Broadway" fame), and others.  Mark Guerrero performed two Lalo Guerrero songs, "Los Chucos Suaves" and "Tin Marin de do Pingue" and sat in on the finale with Dyke & the Blazers. (2005)

The Hop, Puente Hills, CA- concert as a member of reunited 70s Chicano rock band, Yaqui.  Performed set, which included six Yaqui songs, two Mark Guerrero songs ("On the Boulevard" and "I'm Brown"), and the Lalo Guerrero classic, "Los Chucos Suaves."  Mark Guerrero sang lead on the latter three songs. (2005)

UCR Palm Desert Graduate Center, University of California, Riverside - (Palm Desert campus)- concert with a three piece acoustic group for the gala for the Lalo Guerrero Film & Arts Festival, group members were Mark Guerrero, Alex Armstrong, and Lorenzo Martinez.  Performed Mark Guerrero's "The Ballad of Lalo Guerrero" and "Pre-Columbian Dream," as well as Lalo Guerrero's "El Corrido de Delano," "Los Chucos Suaves," "Tacos for Two," and "El Chicano."  Also on the bill were pioneer Chicano rockers, El Chicano.  Mark played guitar and sang the co-lead vocal with El Chicano on their hit version of "Brown Eyed Girl."  The concert followed the screening of the documentary, "Lalo Guerrero: The Original Chicano." Biltmore Hotel, Los Angeles, CA - performed at the 7th Annual Cesar E. Chavez Awards Dinner with an acoustic trio.  Mark sang his song "The Ballad of Lalo Guerrero," and Lalo Guerrero's "El Corrido de Delano" and "Los Chucos Suaves," backed by Alex Armstrong and Lorenzo Martinez.  The trio then backed Mark's brother Dan on Lalo Guerrero's "El Chicano."  Arnold Scwartzenegger received an award and spoke at the event.  Lalo Guerrero received a posthumous award also. Orpheum Theater, Los Angeles, CA- performed Lalo Guerrero's "Los Chucos Suaves" backed by Tierra for the taping of a PBS television show "Trini Lopez Presents Latin Music Legends."  In front of a live audience of about 1200 people, Mark also sang in the finale "La Bamba."  Also on the bill were Trini Lopez, Tierra, El Chicano, Little Willie G. & Thee Midniters, and the Greg Rolie Band. Blowout 2009, Van Nuys, CA- Garage rock show at the Van Nuys Elk's Lodge featuring 13 bands.  Mark's teenage band, Mark & the Escorts (1963-66), reunited for the show.  Mark & the Escorts original member Rick Rosas, now Neil Young's bass player, performed with the band, as well as original members Mark Guerrero, Ernie Hernandez, Robert Warren, and Trini Basulto.  John Valenzuela sat in on keyboard.  Valenzuela was a member of Mark's 70s band, Tango.  Thee Ambertones, another East L.A. band of the 60s, reunited for the show. East Los Angeles College- performed with my reunited 70s band, Tango (1973-74), for an event celebrating the new edition of the book "Land of a Thousand Dances" by David Reyes and Tom Waldman.  Performing in Tango were original members Mark Guerrero, John Valenzuela, and Ernie Hernandez.  Richard Rosas was not able to perform because he was on the road with Neil Young.  In his place on bass was Leo Valenzuela, younger brother of original member John.  Sitting in on keyboard was Alex Del Zoppo, a member of Sweetwater who played at Woodstock in '69.  Also on the bill were Lysa Flores and Quetzal. Belvedere Park, East Los Angeles- performed a four song solo acoustic set at concert for the celebration of the opening of the East L.A. stations of the Metro Goldline.  Tierra, Lysa Flores, Cava, Monte Carlo 76, and Anthony Baray also performed. (2009)

Indio Performing Arts Center, Indio, CA- performed a duo acoustic set with Jerry Salas of El Chicano at the screening of the "Trini Lopez Presents Latin Music Legends" for the Coachella Valley Latino Film Festival.  Mark sang lead vocal on his dad's "Los Chucos Suaves" and his "On the Boulevard."  Jerry sang lead on his "I Will Always Be Loved" and El Chicano's hit song "Tell Her She's Lovely." (2009)

Los Angeles Plaza de Cultura y Artes- performed a solo acoustic set of Mark and Lalo Guerrero songs at a book signing event called "Cuentos del Pueblo" in which 10 Mexican-American authors spoke about their books and the stories within. (2011)

Los Angeles Plaza de Cultura y Artes- performed his song "Whitewash" at a Friends of Siqueros event which also featured Dr. Irene Herner Reiss, an expert on the life and work of Mexican muralist David Alfaro Siqueros and author of ""Siqueiros: From Paradise to Utopia"; Rubén Martínez, writer, musician, and teacher; and Oliver Mayer, Chair in Literature and Writing at Loyola Marymount University, author of Crossing Over: A Mexican Family on the Migrant Trail, and resident artist at Stanford University's Institute for Diversity in the Arts.  Mark's song "Whitewash" is about the censoring of a 1932 mural by Siquieros. (2011)

Museum of Ventura County, Ventura, CA- performed a solo acoustic set of five songs prior to the screening of the documentary "Chicano Rock: The Sounds of East Los Angeles."  The set included Mark's songs "On the Boulevard," "Pre-Columbian Dream," and "I'm Brown," in addition to Lalo Guerrero songs "Tacos For Two" and "Los Chucos Suaves."  Mark was also on a panel with Jon Wilkman, "Chicano Rock" documentary producer; Tom Waldman and David Reyes, co-authors of the book "Land of a Thousand Dances," and Max Uballez, leader of the pioneering 1960s East L.A. band The Romancers. (2011)

Los Angeles Plaza de Cultura y Artes- performed a solo acoustic set of songs at an event called "A Time In History: The Mexican-American Repatriation during the Great Depression."  The event in was commemoration of the approximately 400,000 California citizens and residents of Mexican decent who were forced out of California between 1929 and 1944.  The songs Mark sang were related to the theme and that time period, including "This Land Is Your Land" and "Deportees" by Woody Guthrie, songs by Lalo Guerrero, and some Mark Guerrero songs about immigration and his song about Chicano pride and equality, "I'm Brown." (2012)

Los Angeles Plaza de Cultura y Artes- performed a solo acoustic set of pachuco/zoot suit songs at an event celebrating the Chicano zoot suit culture.  The band Chico also performed, as well as Zoot Suit dancers.  A screening of the 1982 movie "Zoot Suit" by Luis Valdez, introduced and moderated by actress and professor of theater arts at Pomona college, followed the musical performances. (2012)

Bootleg Theater, Los Angeles- performed as a special guest, along with Little Willie G, and Thee Commons, backed by Cava, at the after-show concert which followed the play "Evangeline: The Queen of Make Believe."  The play was written by Louie Perez on Los Lobos, Theresa Chavez, and Rose Portillo.  Mark performed "Get Your Baby," his 1965 recording with Mark & the Escorts, "I'm Brown," his 1972 Capitol recording, and "Los Chucos Suaves," his father's pachuco classic. DOCUMENTARIES & DVDs

Lalo Guerrero: The Original Chicano- Mark was music supervisor and wrote and performed an original song, "The Ballad of Lalo Guerrero."  The documentary began airing on PBS nationally in the fall of 2006 and is released on DVD.  Click here to order it on my website. (2006)

Chicano Rock: The Sounds of East Los Angeles- Mark appears in as an interviewee and featured in a performance clip of his song "The Streets of East L.A." on the PBS documentary about the history of Chicano rock in the U.S., with an emphasis on the music that has emerged from East Los Angeles.  Directed and produced by Jon and Nancy Wilkman and based on the book "Land of a Thousand Dances" by Tom Waldman and David Reyes.  (2008)

Trini Lopez Presents Latin Music Legends- Mark performed Lalo Guerrero's "Los Chucos Suaves" backed by Tierra and was also a talent coordinator and helped sync in the final audio mix with the video.  The DVD was of a television special, which aired in 2009 on PBS stations across the country which also featured Trini Lopez, El Chicano, Tierra, Little Willie G & Thee Midniters, and the Gregg Rolie Band.  It was taped at the Orpheum Theater in Los Angeles in 2008.  The DVD also contains bonus footage of performances that did not air on television.  (2009)

Murals of Aztlán- Mark's songs "Pre-Columbian Dream" (instrumental) and "On the Boulevard" (instrumental), recorded by Mark Guerrero with horn and string arrangements by Jose Hernandez of Mariachi Sol de Mexico, were featured in the 1982 television documentary "Murals of Aztlán" about Los Angeles Chicano artists Los Four.  The DVD was released in (2004)

MARK GUERRERO ARCHIVE

The Grammy Museum, Los Angeles, California- loaned two album covers and suggested songs to be included in an exhibit called "Songs of Conscience, Sounds of Freedom."  Mark Guerrero's 1972 45 rpm single "I'm Brown" and the original manuscript of his lyric were also featured.  (2008)

Experience Music Project Museum, Seattle, Washington- loaned ten flyers, five band cards, a radio music chart from the 1960s music scene in East Los Angeles, and several album covers which were  scanned for the "album wall."  (2007)

"El Cantante"- a movie based on the true story of the King of Salsa, Hector Lavoe, who started the salsa movement in 1975 and brought it to the United States.  Provided images of flyers and posters for scenes in the film.  (2006)

"In Thee Midnite Hour"- CD compilation by the legendary East L.A. band of the 60s, Thee Midniters, released on Norton Records.  Provided flyers from the period for use on the CD and vinyl album cover and booklet.  (2006)

"Mexican-Americans in Los Angeles"- provided photo images of Mark & the Escorts, Lalo Guerrero, and Mark, Dan & Lalo Guerrero for the book published by Arcadia Publishing.  (2010)

Website- markguerrero.com or markguerrero.net, contains information on the music of Mark Guerrero, as well as information on other Chicano and "West Coast Eastside Sound" musical artists.  Started in December of 1998, it has become a popular site for people around the world interested in Chicano music.

Internet Radio- "Chicano Music Chronicles"- Mark Guerrero's radio show aired from December 2005 to August 2007 on crnlive.com.  The show featured the music of Chicano music pioneers and legends, with in studio interviews with the artists.  Each show aired once a week and ran for a month or two.  Artists interviewed and featured include, Trini Lopez, Chan Romero, El Chicano, Tierra, Little Willie G., Hirth Matinez, and others.  To hear archived shows, click here.
