Mark & the Escorts was my teenage band which started when I was
13 years old in 1963. The other original members were also
13 or 14 years of age. The band started as a 3-piece and
wound up a 7-piece band when we did our recordings for G.N.P.
Crescendo Records in 1965. The first year or so we were
known as the Escorts. The name became Mark & the Escorts
after that. The first four lists were all instrumentals.
Thanks to the fact I saved most of our song lists, below are
some of them. It's
interesting to see what songs we were playing, most of which
were songs played by other East L.A. bands of the period.
There are surf songs on the early lists, then doo wop, Eastside
Sound, R&B, and British Invasion.
Our first public gig-
We were a 3-piece band with no bass.
Mark Guerrero, Ernie Hernandez, and Robert Warren
CYO Hall in East L.A.- November 15, 1963
Rick Rosas joined the
band as our bass player.
Trini Basulto joined
the band on tenor sax.
Ricky Almaraz had
joined as the lead singer.
Apparently this was
the list of fast songs.
Our slow songs were on a page that's missing-
Joe Cabral on Farfisa
organ and Richard Magaña on baritone sax
were added making us a 7-piece band.
